Scunthorpe
Poly CC have secured sponsorship from Barnsley Cycle
Retailer Racescene UK Ltd to supply track bikes &
helmets for use at Quibell Park Track which is due
to be resurfaced this year, with a Sport England Grant
secured by the club North Lincolnshire Council &
British Cycling.
The club as also secured a Sportsmatch award from
the Racescene sponsorship which will double up the
sponsorship to give the club 20 new track bikes &
helmets.
The bikes will be
used at the planned track session which will include
links with local schools, come & try sessions
for the local community & Go Ride sessions (the
club is a British Cycling registered Go Ride club)
The bikes will also
be available for hire at club training sessions, open
events & track leagues.
The club hopes with
the renovated track & new bikes to encourage more
youngsters into the sport & increase club members
to go on to achieve success for the club & town
The local Scunthorpe area as had a strong history
of producing track riders. The likes of Lal White
Olympic silver medallist at Antwerp in 1920 &
outright winner of the Murratti cup. Nev Tong Commonwealth
Games 1km champion at the Cardiff games, International
riders Pete Brotherton & Jack Tighe. & more
recently Elliott Smith double national Schoolboy champion
in 1986 & Scunthorpe Poly, s national team pursuit
champions in 2000
Jack Tighe is the clubs main sponsor & as been
since the inception of sponsored clubs, which we believe
makes us one of the longest if not the longest sponsorship
agreements in cycling over 30 years
The club are anticipating the track
to be completed by September when the rescheduled
trophy meeting will take place to reopen the track
along with presentation of the Sportsmatch Award by
local MP Elliott Morley.

News
Following a tremendous start
to his career in the senior men's elite ranks,
20 year old Dann has been selected for the BTA
elite men's winter training camp in Sardinia
in December, along with Tim Don, Stuart Hayes,
Andrew Johns, Marc Jenkins in the 10 man training
squad.
Also, following trials during
October, 16 year old Dom Brook, has been selected
for the British Triathlon World Class Start
squad, hopefully following Dann onto the ladder
leading to the top of the sport
